I don't have "Mito Komon Tabi Nikki", but it sounds interesting enough and I think I'll go have a listen... Searching up the song, it does seem to have a connection to the show.Noelle Thamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02869350840856391942noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2501670448657416824.post-34612481113861642722016-04-16T15:35:04.606-04:002016-04-16T15:35:04.606-04:00Hi, Noelle.
Yeah, it's quite the collection. ...Hi, Noelle.

Yeah, it's quite the collection. It has "Chanchiki Okesa", "Funakata-san Yo" and "Yuki no Wataridori" along with "Tokyo Gorin Ondo". There is also one that I have yet to hear called "Mito Komon Tabi Nikki" which makes me wonder if it has anything to do at all with the famous show.J-Canuckhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09551828383307840403noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2501670448657416824.post-34306317402252306782016-04-16T09:54:51.024-04:002016-04-16T09:54:51.024-04:00Ho! And that pose Minami did in the first photo is indeed his pose - didn't have that very bright smile I'm used to though.

With that BEST album featuring Minami's hits, there's no doubt there'd be stuff in there that I will go for - what are some of the tracks in there? I too have a similar album with 20 songs but from 2010 if I'm not wrong, and "Ippon Gatana Dohyo Iri" is also one of the tracks inside. I don't find myself listening to it as much as his other classics, but it's one that I mark as something I kinda like, being cheery and all, plus I adore Minami's rokyoku narration - I had no idea what was going on and only just learnt that it's about a sumo wrestler, but I like hearing his voice turn from jolly to serious.

Anyway, I was aware that a number of enka singers, Michi and Shimizu to be specific, had recorded "Ippon Gatana Dohyo Iri" too, and between Minami and Mihashi, I was wondering who did the original. Little did I know that they were ALL different.

Michi's version is definitely more subdued than Minami's - somehow I find that it matches their stage persona, y'know, discounting Michi's disco foray. It also has a manlier score. I was hoping that this rendition has narration, but I suppose Michi only does minyo and not rokyoku. It'd be interesting to hear him do so though.

Shimazu's version is the fiercest out of the four, both in her intense delivery and narration (sounds like Mohei's gonna deliver the beat down to someone in the Mohomatsu manner), as well as the music. But I expect no less from her.
Noelle Thamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02869350840856391942noreply@blogger.com
