Yeah, "Izakaya" is definite...Hi, Noelle.

Yeah, "Izakaya" is definitely a solitary kind of song...nice to hear while pouring yourself that cup of sake.

The first izakaya in Toronto came from Vancouver. It's called Guu. I've been to some of the other ones but not Guu since from what I've heard, it's more of a raucous nightclub than an old-fashioned pub. For me, though, Kingyo gets my vote since it's a bit closer to the izakaya I remember back in Japan; plus the food is great....and there are two working pachinko machines in the basement.J-Canuckhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09551828383307840403noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2501670448657416824.post-29276323245451879102014-12-06T06:24:50.977-05:002014-12-06T06:24:50.977-05:00Hi J-Canuck,
I could already tell 'Izakaya...Hi J-Canuck,

I could already tell 'Izakaya' was a song from the 50's just by listening to its music! In one way or another, the song's arrangement just reminds me of Hideo Murata's 'Jinsei gekijo'... probably because they're from around the same time period, 'Izakaya' being released a year before 'Jinsei gekijo'. And the 2 songs have this heavy, melancholic atmosphere to it - you can just feel the loneliness in Kasuga's voice as he sang! I would say its a nice song to listen to while having a drink by yourself... listening to it with a bunch of friends at the bar may dampen just the mood.

I think they have izakayas here in Singapore too... it's either that or they're just Japanese restaurants with 'izakaya' in its name. The only joint I can say it's an izakaya for sure has its stuff sold at exorbitant prices (they even sell blue fin tuna!). And then again, I suppose that's expected from one in a nice mall in the heart of the shopping district (Orchard Road).Noelle Thamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02869350840856391942noreply@blogger.com
