I had a moment of hope, but that’s ok. What a sad, strange coincidence that they both had leukaemia.
Takashi was very kind and considerate, a talented guitarist and super cool on his motorcycle in all his rockabilly glory. I’m grateful I got to know him, and to see the Black Cats in L.A. at the China Club and opening for the Go-Gos. They were so much fun! Now I’m going to put play one of their albums, and dance. According to the J-Wikipedia article for Black Cats, Katagiri sadly passed away in 1987 at around the age of 27 due to leukemia. There were a couple of other sites that also noted his passing although neither of them were clear on the exact year. Vocalist Seiichi Takada died from the same disease on July 29th 2004.

Obviously this is not good news but I hope that it has answered your question. Certainly I'm sorry to hear about the death of your friend at such a young age.J-Canuckhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09551828383307840403noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2501670448657416824.post-35319681974338488902021-09-23T12:26:51.790-04:002021-09-23T12:26:51.790-04:00Hi, I was fortunate to meet the Black Cats in 1981...Hi, I was fortunate to meet the Black Cats in 1981 and became friends with guitarist Takashi Katagiri. I lost touch with him & friends in Japan said he died of leukaemia. Having stumbled on your post, I am now hoping they were wrong. It seems odd and sad that both Takashi and Seiich would have both died young of leukaemia. If you have any way to find out I would be most grateful. Thank you. To answer that commenter's query, yup it must have burning hot when I remember seeing all that footage on TV of all those boys in pompadours and girls in poodle skirts twisting away in Harajuku and Yoyogi Park.

At the time, I remember bands such as The Chanels and The Venus dipping into the 1950s music stylings but Black Cats definitely came right from the street and through time. "Come On My Baby" sounds as if it came straight from a jukebox at Arnolds in "Happy Days".

"Man & Boy" also has that Richie & Lori Beth feel to it but it also sounds pretty contemporary in the arrangement, too.J-Canuckhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09551828383307840403noreply@blogger.com
