Over a decade ago, I came up with the KKP article "J-Canuck's Nighttime Playlist" which was composed of songs with a nocturnal theme or mood thanks to a "Myojo"(明星)songbook collection. Of course, feel free to peruse that old chestnut. However, last night, my mind was wading through the usual dross as I was zoning out from watching the baseball game when I realized that there were a fair number of kayo kyoku with the word "night" in their titles. So, why not provide a small modest list of such songs for fun?
I've also come up with a sequel.
(1977) Hatsumi Shibata -- My Luxury Night (マイ・ラグジュアリー・ナイト)
(1984) Tomoko Aran -- Slow Nights
(1988) Joe Hisaishi -- Night City
(1989) Toshinobu Kubota -- Oh! What A Night!
(2009) Perfume -- NIGHT FLIGHT

My wife has Toshinobu Kubota's "The baddest"(1989) album! And, my wife and I have listened to a lot of Toshinobu's 80's songs. I think it is a little too bad that must people seem to only his "La La La Love song"(1996) which by the way is a good song in fact it was good enough that it was also covered in 1998 by a dutch Jazz singer by the name of Laura Fygi (but that my friend is a story for another day). I am sure that Hatsumi Shibata was able to afford a lot of luxury nights or to have rich boyfriends pay for for them. In 1985 Hatsumi Shibata decided to have a latin night or at least she released a song about one. Perfume's night flight would also be a nice song for a night drive!
ReplyDelete"La La La Love Song" is arguably Kubota's most famous song for all those who aren't necessarily his most ardent fans. But Kubota also has plenty of other tunes that are wonderful such as "Be Wannabe" and "Time Shower ni Utarete".
DeleteI am really fond of Kubta's "Missing" and "You were mine"!
ReplyDeleteBoth great songs as well!
