Maki Ueda -- Invader Walk(インベーダーWALK)

Never did I think that a song could be made involving a female wrestler from Japan and a supremely popular video game from the late 1970s,  but in that nation, anything was and is possible when it comes to pop culture (and of course, why couldn't wrestlers be into the video game craze?). Sure enough, a few years ago, I posted an article on "Aitsu wa Invader"(あいつはインベーダー)by Maki Ueda(上田マキ)who happened to be one half of the wrestling duo Beauty Pair.

Well, as I mentioned for that article, "Aitsu wa Invader" was the B-side to Ueda's one-and-only 1979 record "Invader Walk". Compared to the light mix of disco and technopop of "Aitsu wa Invader" which played a little like a tokusatsu series theme song, the A-side emphasized just the disco in what sounded like a combination of "YMCA" and a good old-fashioned rock n' roll song. Shigeru Kawamura(河村シゲル)was the lyricist here while Isamu Shiroga/Shiroka(城賀イサム)took care of the good-time melody.

  1. Your descriptions are spot on! If I had not been able to see the video, I would have been able to imagine it almost perfectly. This is fun song! I wonder if it has a hit with kids back in the 70's ?

    1. I wouldn't be surprised if it had been a hit. With the kids going all ga-ga over games like "Space Invaders" and "Pac-Man", the song was probably pure honey.
