SHOTS -- Living in a Town

From Discogs

Hope you've been having a good weekend so far. I was able to down my first strips of bacon in a couple of weeks, so yes, I'm doing a lot happier than I was last Sunday.

Although having the usual Sunday breakfast leads to me getting out for grocery shopping, I know that for a lot of others, the weekend repast often has folks schlumping down in their armchairs or beds for some relaxing newspaper reading or sports viewing. Maybe the following is a good accompaniment melodically post-meal.

I had never heard of the duo SHOTS consisting of DJs Satoru Fujii(藤井悟)and Tetsu Matsuoka(松岡徹)but ironically they had their one shot together in 1990. There was one blurb on the guys on "Ongaku Natalie" but that was mostly about hanging with the guys in London back in the day. I did pick up on one thing though and that was the fact that SHOTS was into the music known as Groundbeat. Well, I hadn't even heard of that before and the Groundbeat moniker was apparently restricted to Japan. Outside, it was known as British soul circa 1990s with Soul II Soul being one of the primary producers.

SHOTS released at least one single and one self-titled album in 1990. The single was "Sweet as Your Feeling", but the song featured here is the coupling song "Living in a Town". This is one laidback tune lying peacefully on a reggae rhythm as Fujii and Matsuoka lie down and croon blissfully.

  1. When I think of two Japanese guys roaming around London (or any other nationality), reggae is the last thing that comes to my mind. But nevertheless, this song is very calming, relaxing, and cool!
