Mikako Hashimoto -- Heart Byoyomi(ハート秒読み)

Welcome to another KKP weekend! As I was telling a friend of mine this morning, it doesn't really feel like spring here in Toronto quite yet, but at least, the snow is largely gone and I can actually walk the sidewalks like a normal human being again. I'll be happy to take the little steps toward the green season.

Anyways, out of the Mikako Hashimoto(橋本美加子)songs I've covered thus far on KKP, this single has struck me as being the grooviest thus far. This is her 5th single from June 1986, "Heart Byoyomi", which seems to translate directly as "Heart Countdown", although I'm wondering if it's more accurate to say "Reading Your Heartbeat" in terms of the usual trials and tribulations of love encountered in these aidoru tunes. In any case, Mai Arai(あらい舞)was responsible for both words and music and as for the latter, I love the wailing electric guitar and the horns. Kei Wakakusa(若草恵)took care of the snazzy arrangement.

  1. I like the sound of "Reading your Heartbeat" much more than "hear countdown" which sound like some is about to have a heart attack or something. This song sits somewhere between City pop and Kayokyoku of the more pop mainstream type. It is so easy to listen to without being boring or too fast.

    1. Hello, Brian. Yeah, I think "Reading Your Heartbeat" is more appropriate. The direct translation might be better used in a CPR video.

  2. I'm very impressed with the existence of a 500 disc collection of Kayo. I can recognize many of those cover photos.
Did you ever collaborate with jpopss for archiving ?

    1. Hello, Solarriors. I came across the collection at either CD Japan or Amazon.jp. This particular book lists the female idols in "alphabetical" order via hiragana. However, because of the huge number of idols during the 1970s and 1980s, the book only shows one album per idol through its pages. You can take a look at the book itself and a sample of the pages at Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/%E5%A4%A7%E4%B9%85-%E9%81%94%E6%9C%97/dp/4401637135

    2. Are there other such volumes or collections ?

    3. When it says 500 discs included, it means 500 disc cover arts, not songs ?

    4. As far as I know, there is a City Pop book that has gone through at least three editions, and another one covering female singer-songwriters. As for this particular book on female idols, it would probably mean 500 albums. Each album shows its playlist next to the image of the cover.
