It really makes "Mugon no Jealousy" stand out.J-Canuckhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09551828383307840403noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2501670448657416824.post-91635769111738753392018-07-26T06:57:52.921-04:002018-07-26T06:57:52.921-04:00This is one of my favorite EPO songs, right up the...This is one of my favorite EPO songs, right up there with her version of Ginji Itoh/Sugar Babe's こぬか雨(konuka Ame).

The subtle "dragging" of the phrases in her singing as well as in the band's playing is so on the spot. It is rare to hear this kind of groove in Japanese pop. I think my point becomes apparent when you compare Muramatsu's version with hers.

Kaznoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2501670448657416824.post-27212312723379566022018-03-04T23:23:05.162-05:002018-03-04T23:23:05.162-05:00Hi again.

I'm not an expert on Philly soul by any means but from what little that I do know, I would agree that there was a certain a free spirit or joy with the genre. City Pop of the 70s and 80s also had an inviting spirit as if the singers were the ticket-takers to bring listeners over to the arena of big-city magic and success.J-Canuckhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09551828383307840403noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2501670448657416824.post-20824404344886461752018-03-04T10:12:18.812-05:002018-03-04T10:12:18.812-05:00I've read that Philly soul was the result of a...I've read that Philly soul was the result of a quest for urban and urbane black music. I get the impression that Japanese city pop had a spirit similar to that of Philly soul in this respect.

RoelMAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2501670448657416824.post-3397875024704266422018-03-04T09:53:35.404-05:002018-03-04T09:53:35.404-05:00If contemporary as in contemporary with the Spinne...If contemporary as in contemporary with the Spinners' music, then I can say I like Sweet Soul from the 70s and Philly Soul in general. Are you into the more urban contemporary stuff?J-Canuckhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09551828383307840403noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2501670448657416824.post-11311737564057937262018-03-03T12:02:59.330-05:002018-03-03T12:02:59.330-05:00Made a typo error with the song's title ...
