Chihiro Onitsuka -- Ryuuseigun(流星群)

When I wrote about Chihiro Onitsuka's(鬼束ちひろ)hit single "Gekkou"(月光)back in 2016, I'd related the fact that I hadn't known that it and the hit J-drama series "Trick" were connected as theme song and show respectively. "Gekkou" seemed to be one of those songs that would do extremely well on its own without any media connections thanks to Onitsuka's amazing vocals and the overall feeling of something hopeful and holy at the same time.

A second series of "Trick" came out at the beginning of 2002 and so Onitsuka was brought on board once more to come up with the theme song. Once again, the singer came out with something heartwarming and beautiful through "Ryuuseigun" (Meteor Shower) which also served as her 6th single released in February 2002. With words and music by her, it's a lovely and lush pop ballad thanks to a rich piano and strings. Plus, some of those Onitsuka gospel influences come into play here although perhaps not to the same extent as was the case in "Gekkou".

"Ryuuseigun" soared up to No. 7 on Oricon and went Gold. It was also a track on Onitsuka's 2nd album "This Armor" from March 2002 with it peaking at No. 3 and later becoming the 34th-ranked release of the year.
