MEG -- Seventeen Rendezvous(セブンティーン・ランデヴー)

The last time I wrote about singer/songwriter/fashion designer MEG was back in 2016 with her July 2002 debut single "Scanty Blues"  (スキャンティブルース) which would be covered by her songwriting partner Yasuyuki Okamura(岡村靖幸)several years later for the "Space Dandy" soundtrack. I mentioned in that article that her "Scanty Blues" had a bit of sweet but also more sultry in it.

I think that the same is true for her "Seventeen Rendezvous" which was a coupling song for "Trap", her 16th single from June 2012. MEG was on lyrics while the music and arrangement were handled by guitarist and producer NARASAKI, the leader of the band coaltar of the deepers and someone who has had a hand in music ranging from Death Metal to New Wave according to his J-Wiki profile. Both "Trap" and "Seventeen Rendezvous" were included in MEG's 9th album "WEAR I AM" released in October of that same year.

With "Seventeen Rendezvous", there is that mysterious and slightly sinister tilt to the synthpop as MEG sings in a breathy and enticing way about inviting listeners to a good time in the big city. I'm gathering that the first word in the title refers to an age so I'm thinking that the dangerous liaison is to take place in the Tokyo teen mecca of Shibuya on a Friday night. Whatever the case, I will be content enough with just the melodic temptation, thank you very much.
