I've been a fan of Japanese popular music for 40 years, and have managed to collect a lot of material during that time. So I decided I wanted to talk about Showa Era music with like-minded fans. My particular era is the 70s and 80s (thus the "kayo kyoku"). The plus part includes a number of songs and artists from the last 30 years and also the early kayo. So, let's talk about New Music, aidoru, City Pop and enka.

Noriko Miyamoto -- Silver Rain
Noriko Miyamoto(宮本典子), who currently goes by the stage name, Mimi, is another singer I only came across through the pages of "Japanese City Pop". As you can see from the photo from the book above, she certainly stood out from the covers with her big hair and glamourous looks. And according to the book, she's been called the "Original R&B Diva". She debuted in 1978 with the album, "Push", and her discography can be found at www.makeitfunky.com/sdb/M/ . Just scroll up "Mimi (Noriko Miyamoto)".
"Silver Rain" is a single that came from her 4th album, "New Romance"(1981), and it's not quite R&B. It comes off more as a straight City Pop tune or perhaps something like fusion, but it is an enjoyable listen and I like that wailing synth/guitar along with Miyamoto's groovy little beat. She's definitely someone that I'd like to get to know better.
