Dreams Come True -- Romance

Aside from those trumpets (?) that launched "Romance" (they sound like something from a B-grade sword & sorcery game), I generally liked Dreams Come True's 19th single. Released in October 1995 three months after the appearance of the group's behemoth ballad "Love Love Love", I had thought that "Romance" would have curled up in some dark dank corner in a cloud of underconfidence.

Instead, compared to the anthemic "Love Love Love", "Romance" came off as this cool and urban mid-tempo tune which could distinguish itself from its immediate predecessor. And it also hit No. 1 with a bullet, keeping that DCT touch alive and well. Mind you, it finished the year at the bottom end of the Oricon 100 at No. 95 while its big sister just happened to become the No. 1 single of the year, but there was still plenty of love to go around.

Written by lead vocalist Miwa Yoshida（吉田美和）and composed/arranged by bassist Masato Nakamura（中村正人）, the music video for the song also caught my eye since it had Yoshida actually getting down into some choreography (the quick cuts helped, too) as well. And she looked pretty cute in pigtails.
