Maybe we in Toronto could all do with a bit of cheering up since the daily infection rates haven't gone down one iota despite the lockdown and now our mayor is warning that even more bitter medicine is in store in the form of even tighter measures. Just kinda wonder whether we'll need to stock up on food and drinks for the last week of the year and the first week of the New Year.
In any case, perhaps one example of that cheer can come in the form of Mari Iijima's（飯島真理）"Pink no Rouge" (Pink Rouge) which is originally from her 4th album "Kimono Stereo" from November 1985. Written and composed by the singer, it's an uptempo tune that has an intro slightly reminiscent of an old Ray Parker Jr. song and for some reason, it sounds like something that her alter ego from "Macross", Lynn Minmay, would try as a more mature pop song.
Indeed, Iijima's lyrics are all about rebounding from a lass' first big romance with a spot of that titular cosmetic and a ponytail plus a big kiss-off to the former beau. Love the keyboard work here and there's some rather jazzy guitar to take us home. Love may be bittersweet but there's nothing written in stone that it can't be surrounded by some jaunty and happy music.
