  1. Hello J-Canuck,

Would you happen to know anything about the Lost Akiba Tape, tentatively named "Fly Away"?

    1. Hello, Guillermo and thanks for your inquiry. I also received your message on the contact form.

Yes, I did get a similar request about a year ago from a fellow named Thiesli about the Akiba Tape and put up an APB on the blog: https://kayokyokuplus.blogspot.com/2021/05/all-points-bulletin-name-this-tune.html

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to figure out the identity of the mystery singer either although I did mention in the blog entry that she sounds similar to Shizuka Kudo, but considering the estimated time that the tape had been made, Kudo probably wasn't even ready for the Onyanko Club yet.

Since that blog entry in May 2021, I have wondered whether the reason behind this mystery is due to the possibility that the singer either gave up her dreams of a professional career and left showbiz or it was just someone who had the talent for singing and did the recording for a friend who created the song but had no intention of becoming a professional.

Another thing to consider is that there have been at least a couple of singers in City Pop that have completed covered their tracks and basically disappeared after leaving the industry: Takako Mamiya and Meiko Nakahara although rumours have abounded about their fates. It's also possible that the mystery singer may be aware of the search for her identity but is staying absolutely quiet to protect her privacy.

Still, this has been a mystery that's gotten a lot of attention among Japanese pop fans for several years now, and I for one, would also be interested in reading about this being resolved someday. Hope you and your friends get some information and luck in finding out.
