Things are cooler today in Toronto although they will be heating up this long weekend. Welcome to August 2025.
The first time I heard about this group Jackass Club, my mind immediately sped back to that notorious MTV show but of course, that's not right. All I know about this City Rock group is that it's been around since at least 2021 and it originated in Shinjuku as a three-piece band with Taiki Tsuzuki as the vocalist, keyboardist and songwriter.
Their sixth single which premiered in May this year is "Starlight" and it features Tsuzuki having a duet with Texas-born singer Alma. Written and composed by Tsuzuki, the disco arrangement also has that groovy and bluesy feeling which has been part and parcel of the Neo-City Pop movement in the 2020s so far. Plus, I think there's also a bit of the R&B patter in the delivery of the two singers It's time for that stroll through nocturnal Odaiba.
What a name for a group! I wonder who came up with the group name? Well, this is a soulful song!
