Considering recent sports events in Toronto, my fellow Torontonians and Canadians at large may be feeling rather blue for a little while. And I can understand that...invest so much of your enthusiasm, soul and passion into the actions of one team...only to see them not quite grab the brass ring. It's a gut punch but everyone will get over it and move forward soon enough.
I kinda thought that this song might be somewhat emblematic of how folks are feeling right now. This is "Final" from composer and arranger Katsuhisa Hattori's(ζι¨ε δΉ )"Juicy and Crispy" album from 1985. And it sure sounds final in a melancholy way. With that forlorn trombone included in the mix, it feels like the end of a story where the guy doesn't get the girl, the team manages to grab defeat from the jaws of victory, the up-and-coming boxer ultimately gets knocked out by the champ after twelve grueling rounds, and so on. It's sad but heroic as all involved trudge off into the sunset exhausted, disappointed but perhaps hopeful for the future with lessons learned.
"Juicy and Crispy" also holds the surprisingly AOR "Secrets" by Hattori. Give that a listen, too.

Are, you speaking of the Toronto Blue Jays in game 7 of the world series? Actually, I didn't know anything about this till I read your blog and went searching for clues as to what you were talking about. I do not spend time watching sports on T.V. unless of course it one soccer team that my wife likes to watch.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I don't talk much about sports on the blog since this isn't the forum for that sort of thing.
DeleteYou have my condolences! However, on the bright side I think a lot of people be included have a lot of new respect for the Toronto Blue Jays!
