Kumiko Yamashita -- Baby Baby (I love you tonight)

The last time I posted anything by singer-songwriter Kumiko Yamashita(山下久美子)was back in the dark days of COVID in the spring of 2020, so I figure that it's time to bring her back in more open days.

Considering that very cute voice of hers behind the mike, the title track from her November 1982 5th studio album "Baby Baby" makes for a nice match. Written and composed by Yamashita and arranged by Kenji Omura(大村憲司), if it hadn't been for the fact that it was her own creation, I would have assumed that this was a cover of some 1950s or 1960s girl pop song from America but with a mixture of City Pop groove and crystal synthpop applique, especially with that twangy guitar in the middle.

  1. Yes, I know it is not, but if this were a cover of a 1950s or 1960s song, it would be more of a rearrangement and update than a straightforward cover because it sounds too contemporary at least to my ears.

    1. Yeah, I think maybe my wording was a little off. Of course, it's not a straight cover but one that has been given that groovier and technopop rearrangement.
