Keiko Goto -- Me wo Tojite(目を閉じて)

Not having been on the main drag in Ginza for many years now, I'm not sure whether things have changed significantly for one of the world's most expensive pieces of real estate, like Shibuya and Shinjuku in recent times. However, I hope that the neighbourhood association there has at least maintained the tradition of closing off the streets to vehicular traffic during the weekends.

One of the venerable establishments in Ginza is a place called Gin-Pari(銀巴里)which has been known as a chanson club, and apparently a singer-songwriter by the name of Keiko Goto(後藤啓子)used to perform there in the 1970s. However, chanson isn't the music of choice in the first track of her 1981 2nd album "Natural Woman". "Me wo Tojite" (Close Your Eyes) has been described as a lively slice of Brazilian fusion that was given words by Goto and melody by Nanpei Iwama(岩間南平). I'm not sure whether one would want to close their eyes to this song; I'd probably join the dancing instead with my eyes wide open. Interesting and conga line-exciting combination of synthesizer and saxophone here.

  1. This is some great Latinized city pop and I dig the big hair Keiko Goto is sporting on the album cover.
