I actually placed this news as an addendum to the article on Reiko Takahashi that I had written back in early February this year regarding "Let me into your place ~Sunset Road~"(サンセット・ロード). However, I then decided that I just didn't want Takahashi fans to just bump into this fact days, weeks or even months down the line through an article that they had already seen, and I gather that for these same fans, this is a "Stop the presses!" moment. So I've given the news its own article.
A few days ago, a Canadian YouTuber by the name of Goosebumps Radio was able to interview Takahashi (now known as Rayco) for a little over half an hour on her career, the whole City Pop boom and even the mysterious Akiba Tape. So, why not give them a listen if you haven't already done so? It's definitely not too late (inside joke).
Like a few other Japanese singers from the 80's Reiko Takahashi lives in Los Angeles, California. New York, Los Angeles, and Hawaii seemed to be the places that some Japanese celebrities liked to escape to. However, there are exceptions like Naoko Kanehara (Naoko Kawai) who has lived in Australia since 1996 and holi (Akiko Kobayashi) who has lived in the UK since 1992.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I would have been thrilled if Akina Nakamori had lived in my humble city instead of New York City or LA, but hey, we can't win everything.
DeleteA singer by the name of, Milet, is from Canada, or at least she spent her early days there before moving to Tokyo. Singer Jonah Yano is based in Toronto, and so is Sakako. Not a singer, but the inventor of the California roll and the B.C. roll, Hidekazu Tojo lives in Vancouver.
ReplyDeleteHi, Brian. I didn't know about the others but I did know that Milet had spent at least a few years in BC, I believe. There was also one singer somewhere in the blog that I'd talked about who spent about a year in Toronto...much of it in poverty.
