Neighbors Complain -- Milky Way

Nominee for Picture of the Year 2007

In the past week or so, I've read that the band Mrs. GREEN APPLE had a lot of complaints over their sound from their concert in Yokohama...complaints that came from as far away as the neighboring cities of Kawasaki and Tokyo. What were they using for their speakers...the equivalent of radio telescopes?

Anyways, that incident reminded me of that groovy band with the unusual name Neighbors Complain. I have posted about them twice, both articles being in 2022 when the world including my neck of the woods were just on the cusp of opening back up after the pandemic. Maybe the former buskers were getting their own noise complaints at night but I can't deny that their sound is nice and groovy.

The two articles I wrote about them were "Night Drivin'" and "LST/D", songs that were out in the late 2010s. I've come across their most recent work which is the album "Lucky 7" from April 2025 and their first track is "Milky Way", one groovalicious number by vocalist/keyboardist Oto. There is some mighty tasty mellow funk coursing through its veins and if this had been something playing on the stereo in any car I was riding, I would have asked about it immediately. It seems perfect for a night drive. Or if you want to be vicarious about it, you can play "Milky Way" above while simultaneously playing a J Utah night drive video below with the volume there off.

  1. Neighbors Complain reminds me of a lot of Mitsunaga Ryouta!
