Yutaka Kimura Speaks ~ Japanese City Pop Masterpieces 100: Toshiki Kadomatsu -- August Rain

Hello, J-Canuck here. Just to clarify, I did provide an article for "August Rain" three weeks ago but that was for the original version on Toshiki Kadomatsu's(角松敏生)"Touch and Go" album from June 1986. The version that Kimura is talking about here is for an updated take on the song via Kadomatsu's December 1991 compilation "TEARS BALLAD", although personally I don't think that there is all that much difference between the two. But I will let you readers decide on that.

Number: 018

Lyricist/Composer/Arranger: Toshiki Kadomatsu

From Kadomatsu's 1991 album: "TEARS BALLAD"

It's my personal impression that a mark of a truly good artist is polishing up an old song for a listen, and this best ballad version, more than the favourable original medium-tempo version from "Touch and Go", is far and away even better in terms of the vocals. How its progress can be reflected in this manner as an artist is due to the fact that the song itself is already highly accomplished.

The above comes from "Disc Collection Japanese City Pop Revised" (2020).
