Mizue Takada -- Watashi wa Piano (私はピアノ)
Minako Yoshida -- Koi wa Ryuusei (恋は流星)
Shinji Tanimura -- Subaru (昴)
Yellow Magic Orchestra -- Taiso (体操)
I've been a fan of Japanese popular music for 40 years, and have managed to collect a lot of material during that time. So I decided I wanted to talk about Showa Era music with like-minded fans. My particular era is the 70s and 80s (thus the "kayo kyoku"). The plus part includes a number of songs and artists from the last 30 years and also the early kayo. So, let's talk about New Music, aidoru, City Pop and enka.

Minako Yoshida -- Koi wa Ryuusei (恋は流星)
Shinji Tanimura -- Subaru (昴)
Yellow Magic Orchestra -- Taiso (体操)
Mizue Takada's (私はピアノ) is a thing of beauty it hits all the chords and it has nice beat. Shiniji Tanimura is at his best as always, YMO's Taiso is a bit strange, but I guess they were having fun. The AI pictures were all fun this time around. The AI picture for Taiso looks like some 1980's video game and even one of the characters is jumping up into the air like Super Mario.
ReplyDeleteHello, Brian. "Watashi wa Piano" was one of the first kayo kyoku that I heard once I got into kayo kyoku. It just felt so classy and metropolitan...which is why I was so shocked when I eventually discovered that it was Keisuke Kuwata who had created it.
Delete"Taiso" was a bit of video weirdness. Commenters were wondering whether the lass in the video was on drugs before filming. I was going for a bit of pixel art for the picture since it was some classic YMO technopop...a little too "busy" since I'd been hoping for something more esoteric.
