Yuki Yamakawa -- Uratobi Sasuke '78(ウラトビサスケ'78)

The last time I wrote about Yuki Yamakawa(山川ユキ)was back in the early days of the pandemic and it was for her debut single "Shinjuku Dada"(新宿ダダ)from June 1977. That was quite the brassy take-no-prisoners variety of Mood Kayo for her.

Well, cue ahead more than a year to August 1978. Yamakawa only released four singles before calling it a day, so this one was her third and penultimate release called "Uratobi Sasuke '78". As for what the title means, I have no idea but I did notice the repeated mention of the store Camera no Sakuraya(カメラのさくらや)on its YouTube page, so perhaps "Uratobi Sasuke '78" may have been used as a campaign song.

Whatever its usage, the song is definitely one funky disco tune that was written and composed by Hiroshi "Monsieur" Kamayatsu(かまやつひろし), formerly of the Group Sounds band The Spiders. Looking very different and daring on that single cover, Yamakawa just gives out a steady rhythmic patter of lyrics that I think were put together for pure sound effect rather than any deep meaning. I gather that it's an example of disco rap.

  1. Part of the beat of this song reminds me a little of the Bee Gees - Stayin' Alive !
