Yutaka Kimura Speaks ~ Japanese City Pop Masterpieces 100: Kazuhito Murata -- Ano Nami wo Tsukamaete(あの波をつかまえて)

Number: 005

Lyricist: Yoshihiko Ando

Composer: Kazuhiko Murata

Arranger: Tatsuro Yamashita

From his 1984 album: "My Crew"

A masterpiece of a sumptuous ballad, "Ano Nami wo Tsukamaete"  (Get That Wave) was apparently recorded in one shot with the help of five people. Its truly alive performance is certainly comfortable, and for Murata(村田和人), it's an unusually soulful song that also sounds fresh. Tatsuro Yamashita's(山下達郎)guitar exquisitely intertwined with the song and the "dark" Hammond organ by Yasuharu Nakanishi(中西康晴)evoke a wonderful mood. The nostalgic lyrics gently invite us to the dimly-lit beach just before daybreak.

The above comes from "Disc Collection Japanese City Pop Revised" (2020).
