Kaoru Sudo -- Amy no Sotsugyo(エイミーの卒業)

Coincidentally enough, this is the graduation month, isn't it? I don't really have anything memorable to state about my various graduation parties from junior high to university, except to say that alcohol is a hell of a stimulant. But for any of those KKP readers who have or will be graduating this June, my congratulations!

First off, I have to give whoever came up with the design for Kaoru Sudo's(須藤薫)March 1983 album "Planetarium" some big compliments. That's one lovely cover (Art Deco?) of a metropolitan train soaring through suborbital space. Secondly, I also enjoy one of the tracks inside, "Amy no Sotsugyo" (Amy's Graduation) which is a bittersweet mid-tempo song about some love trouble involving the titular lass on the day of her graduation party, thanks to Shun Taguchi's(田口俊)lyrics.

Masamichi Sugi(杉真理), Sudo's good buddy, was responsible for the melody which kinda wavers between City Pop and some 50s/60s pop, and there is even something in the keyboard work that reminds me of what Yumi Matsutoya(松任谷由実)was singing at around the same time. Maybe that's due to the arranger, her husband Masataka Matsutoya(松任谷正隆). As for "Planetarium", it reached No. 48 on the album chart but the cover hits No. 1 for my eyes.😊
