Nothing like a moonlit drive along the highways and byways of a major city, preferably around the midnight hour. Maybe the car radio is playing something quiet but groovy while the winds are whipping the hair back in that convertible.
Back in 2019, Kirinji(キリンジ)and DJ/singer-songwriter YonYon got together to create "Killer Tune Kills Me", with then-Kirinji guitarist Erino Yumiki(弓木英梨乃)representing the group as the lead vocal while featuring YonYon. I found it to be more of a technopop song than a Neo-City Pop tune but it was still perfect as some driving music.
This time, turnabout was fair play as YonYon became the lead vocal with Kirinji's Takaki Horigome(堀込高樹)helping out to come up with "Moonlight Cruising", a single that first appeared in April this year. According to JASRAC, not only did YonYon and Horigome work on words and music, they were also joined by Gu Yong Jun, Peavis and Slom. "Moonlight Cruising" executes what it's selling in the title: a romantic drive on the expressways and it's also filled with some rhythmic wooziness as if it's reflecting some of that fatigue and satisfaction of a good night out on the town while in the passenger seat and letting the breeze waft over you.

For Neo City pop「Moonlight Cruising」has almost a R&B or Hip hop style, maybe it is those drums? I am not sure, but it is cool and refreshing.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I think YonYon is also into the hip-hop and R&B genres. "Moonlight Cruising" is indeed very cool and good.
