Ahhh...the early 80s aidoru arrangement: lots of wailing electric guitar and twinkling synthesizers, plus the adorably (or not) off-tune teenage singer herself. Found a new aidoru in the form of Tokyoite Chiaki Ogami(尾上千昌)who was a part of an aidoru septet called Shower(シャワー)in 1982. The group only released two singles and one album that year.
As for Ogawa, she released just one single herself in July 1983 titled "Tokimeki Highway" (Highway of Excitement). Written by Ikki Matsumoto(松本一起)and composed by Koji Makaino(馬飼野康二), the song fulfills my impression that I described in the first paragraph including the off-tune vocals. At least one of the covers for the single had her looking a bit like Yoshie Kashiwabara(柏原芳恵).
During In the video, there is a photo of Chiaki Ogami drinking a blue beverage. I wonder what that was? Anyway, I found the score/arrangement to be very pleasant to listen to. I am not sure who Chiaki sounds like. As for the off-tune vocals, I guess this is okay for brand-new Aidoru type singers in Japan because they, I have heard, are supposed to grow and mature with their fans through the years.
ReplyDeleteHello, Brian. Yep, what would usually get a singer booted off an audition stage in other nations or sent for intense vocal training has been fine in Japan for decades. It all adds to the cuteness and relatability.
