It was ten years ago when I first knew about singer-songwriter and actor Gen Hoshino（星野源）, and he came up with his irresistible hit "Sun" in 2015. Over the years, I've known to pay special interest whenever he comes out with a new song since he's got a way with those hooks.
So I gather that with a 2015 "Sun", it would be kismet for him to release his latest album "Gen" yesterday with the lead single being something called "Star". And once again, he's gotten me with his hook, line and sinker. The hook this time is that rich and rolling piano which gets me thinking about 70s soul and bands such as Sing Like Talking and Kirinji. The video is nice to see with all that typographical play bouncing off Gen and the melody. I'm not sure where the director filmed the singer prancing about but I wouldn't be surprised if it were some ritzy residential neighbourhood in Tokyo. Let's see how this one does going into the summer.
