Usually I leave the Western acts for the weekly Thursday Reminiscings of Youth series. However, I have made a very big exception for the soft rock duo Young Gun Silver Fox. Since hearing them for the first time back in 2021, my heart will always thrill to the 1970s AOR stylings of Andy Platts and Shawn Lee. Listening to their 2020 "Kids" when the world was still in lockdown due to COVID, the song was one of my highlights because I knew that there were musicians such as them and Ole Borud who were still willing to plumb the groovy stuff from yore. Coincidentally, I actually heard "Kids" in the local supermarket a few days ago!
Young Gun Silver Fox is celebrating their 10th anniversary this year with the release of their album "Pleasure" and one of the tracks is "Born to Dream". A very happy riff off the Doobie Brothers, I can put some of this song between my cheek and gum (well, ears really) for pure listening pleasure. Love the keyboard work and the vocals, and I'm happy to see YGSF actually perform in the video.
This is groovy and rock’n’ at the same time! Their voices and harmony are great, and although I am not sure what song of the Doobie Brothers they are riffing off, I do think that Young Gun Silver Fox has a different vocal range than the lead singer for the Doobie Brothers and what they are doing is original enough. I like this retro style a lot.
ReplyDeleteHi, Brian. Actually, when I was mentioning about the riffing off of the Doobie Bros., I wasn't referring to Michael McDonald, who of course has a much different voice. It was actually the famous Doobie Bounce on the keyboard.
DeleteOh, I got it now!
