Singer-songwriter Minami also did his own cover of the song under a similarly generic title called "Standard Number"(スタンダードナンバー) which was his 16th single in 1984. The situation reminded me of Yakushimaru's debut single, the aforementioned "Sailor Fuku to Kikanjuu", when composer Takao Kisugi(来生たかお) also did his own cover of that song under the title of "Yume no Tochuu"(夢の途中...In The Middle of a Dream), although the reasons there were somewhat more antagonistically based. The arrangement for "Standard Number" was more City Pop in design.
I've been a fan of Japanese popular music for 40 years, and have managed to collect a lot of material during that time. So I decided I wanted to talk about Showa Era music with like-minded fans. My particular era is the 70s and 80s (thus the "kayo kyoku"). The plus part includes a number of songs and artists from the last 30 years and also the early kayo. So, let's talk about New Music, aidoru, City Pop and enka.

Hiroko Yakushimaru/Yoshitaka Minami -- Main Theme (メイン・テーマ)/Standard Number (スタンダードナンバー)

I don't know if you're aware of this, but a curio from Main Theme. The short haired lady in a red dress in the screenshot is in the only film she's appeared in. Hiroko is on the left.

Here's a rare shot of them both again, from a few years earlier, with Queen.

From what I could find out, I think that lady is Hiromi Ohta, and yep, "Main Theme" is the only film that she appeared in.
DeleteAnother performance. The instrumental part is especially amusing, as Akina looks like she's saying "Tell me when you're done and I'm on again."

Hello, Jim.
DeleteYes, that's Akina in jazz chanteuse mode. The only thing that was missing from her attitude was her request for a cigarette. Nice cover of "Main Theme"; completely makes me forget Hiroko's original.
