Air Suspension Club Band -- Daydream

 

Let us hope that it's the type of day outside today where you can be like Mr. Calico above and just sip an iced coffee while whiling away the time peacefully at a stylish café in the big city.

Having this as your musical accompaniment isn't bad either. It's been nearly five years since I posted the most recent entry for the obscure Japanese fusion group Air Suspension Club Band, and the last time I did so was to provide information on their energetic "Seaside in the Twilight" track from their 1982 album "Another World". 

I found out on Tower Records that "Seaside in the Twilight" had been released as a single and its B-side is the subject of this article. "Daydream" sounds perfect for the title as it's far more chill and it's tempting to go into lazy gaze mode while slowly savoring that iced coffee. I was able to find out that the song was composed and arranged by Mr. Theodore (sounds either like the name of a James Bond thug or a butler) that could actually represent the entire band. Anyways, for KKP City Pop fans, enjoy another Urban Contemporary Friday today with a bit of relaxation in mind.

Air Suspension Club Band -- Seaside in the Twilight

About 18 months ago, I wrote about this mysterious group called Air Suspension Club Band which was into fusion boogie. Their "Jack in the Box" fairly cooked with funk and dreaminess, and this track was included in their 1982 album "Another World".

Well, another track from "Another World" is "Seaside in the Twilight" which is more on the AOR side of things with a smidgen of jazz on the side. The creamy keyboards take even more of the spotlight here before a romantic saxophone has its moment in the setting sun, but I also take notice of the tight rhythm drumming.

I tried looking for more information on what made ASCB tick and at the Rough Trade site, the band was apparently run by some musicians under the collective name of Mr. Theodore. Also there, I discovered that "Seaside in the Twilight" had also been released as a 7" single.

Air Suspension Club Band -- Jack in the Box

Happy Monday! I've got no idea who the members were in this supposedly one-off project called Air Suspension Club Band, but according to this track "Jack in the Box" from their sole 1982 album "Another World", these guys knew how to funk.

The greatest information that I could find on ASCB is from the Ondas Record Store, and that was only to point out that the band was into fusion boogie. In any case "Jack in the Box" is a nice way to get out of those Sunday night "Oh, woe is me...back to work tomorrow" blues and get back into the swing of things. Along with the funk, there are some of those dreamy passages that take listeners into the sky, and then the clip-cloppy percussion that start and finish the song off.
