Hiroki Takahashi -- Makafushigi Adventure!(魔訶不思議アドベンチャー!)

Around this time last year, I wrote about what I think is the definitive theme song for the "Dragonball"(ドラゴンボール)franchise, and that is "CHA-LA-HEAD-CHA-LA" by Hironobu Kageyama(影山ヒロノブ)for "Dragonball Z".

However, I also said in that article that that was the only theme song I knew. To be honest, I was actually wrong...or at least, partially so. There were the first several bars of another "Dragonball" theme that I could recognize and that was for the opening theme for the original show back in 1986. "Makafushigi Adventure!" (Mystical Adventure!) was Hiroki Takahashi's(高橋洋樹)debut single from March of that year which was released just a week or so after the premiere of the series.

Oh, what a lovely smile! Not quite the rock paradise that "CHA-LA-HEAD-CHA-LA" is, but "Makafushigi Adventure!" is still plenty energetic as Takahashi exhorts everyone to grab them dragon balls. The kids probably lapped this one up like candy as well. Yuriko Mori(森由里子)and Takeshi Ike(いけたけし)were responsible for words and music respectively.

Not sure how "Makafushigi Adventure!" did on the charts but it's still probably cherished as an 80s anison. Takahashi has provided other insert songs for "Dragonball" and has gone on to provide other songs for the anime industry, while also helming a band Come On Baby between 1989 and 1990. Currently, he's an architectural surveying engineer but he also has time to continue his music career, too.
