KKP friend and former writer JTM recommended this group to me a few months ago and he was hoping that maybe they might even get onto the Kohaku Utagassen. My impression though is that the trio BIN might be like groups such as Greeeen and Man with a Mission so that they may be a bit reluctant to show their faces.
BIN is a rock and pop group that started out in 2019 with vocalist Yamagami(山上), illustrator Tomato and producer T. They strutted out via the Internet music scene with their debut collection of songs beginning with "Children"(チルドレン)being released in May 2020. One of the other songs in that collection was "Instant". Yamagami gives us a melodic and lilting jazz-pop piece while the younger generation try to make their way through this crazy world as the grown-ups mock them from above. Tomato has made it clear that the protagonist has gone through some rough stuff to survive.
There's something about "Instant" which makes me think that there have been influences from Ringo Shiina(椎名林檎)and maybe even Ego-Wrappin'. Most of BIN's singles have come out digitally up to 2023 and a full album, "Colony", was released in March 2021 which includes "Instant" and "Children".
'Instant' is kind of refreshing for me. I can't think of any other song that sounds like this at the moment. In recent years more and more artist/groups are reluctant to show their faces for some reason.
ReplyDeletePerhaps anonymity lends a certain attractive mystique to a group. As well, considering how ruthless social media can be, staying sub rosa can have its benefits.
DeleteSorry to bother, do you by chance recognize the song in this clip? https://vocaroo.com/1gmRXbzDCSV8
ReplyDeleteOr are you able to tell if the beginning is in Japanese? Thank you!
