It's been a little over a year since I posted an article by 80s aidoru Hidemi Ishikawa(石川秀美)and that was for the track "Easier" which got onto her July 1986 8th album "Pastiche". I went slightly pop philosophical in that one and wondered aloud or in print about when an aidoru tune is really a City Pop or J-AOR song in terms of "Easier" but in the end, my Labels for the song still included "Aidoru" and "City Pop".
The same goes with this song that I only found out about in the last day or so. "Kokuhaku Go-hyaku Mile" (Confession 500 Miles) is a track on Ishikawa's December 1986 9th album "Blanche", and it's another City Pop zinger powered by wailing electric guitar, that boppy bass and rumbling synths. Written by Akira Ohtsu(大津あきら)and composed by Kisaburo Suzuki(鈴木キサブロ), it's got the aidoru going really funky which almost strangles her vocals at points but overall, it's a nice urban contemporary night tune through the streets or highways of any Japanese city.
「告白500マイル」is great! A blast from the past! This song sound like could have even been used for the sound track of 1980's movie.
