SAKANAMON -- Oka Shika Chika Ika Saka(丘シカ地下イカ坂)

Even in the currently topsy-turvy rescheduling of TV Japan, we still get our NHK "Minna no Uta"(みんなのうた)music videos. And I have come across another lively earworm from this indies/alternative rock band called SAKANAMON.

"Oka Shika Chika Ika Saka" (Hill Deer Underground Squid Slope) grabbed me right from Note One with an audio roller coaster intro and then a happy tune about the friendship between a deer and a squid on some countryside hill. I have to admit that I could never have imagined such an amicable relationship between a ruminant mammal and a cephalopod so I believe that my mind needs to be further expanded.

In any case, I think that this is a fun one for the kiddies thanks to that happy melody and the up-and-down part of the song. "Oka Shika Chika Ika Saka" was made for "Minna no Uta" and it's currently featured for the April and May 2020 slot. As for SAKANAMON, this band from Tokyo apparently based its name on a request for making music that can be a side dish of life for the listener, according to the J-Wikipedia article on the band, so I guess fish might make for a nice addition on the plate. SAKANAMON got its start in 2008 and consists of vocalist/guitarist Genki Fujimori(藤森元生), bassist Mitsuharu Morino(森野光晴)and drummer Kouta Kimura(木村浩大). They've released three studio singles, a number of mini-albums and full albums, and some tie-ups including "Oka Shika Chika Ika Saka" (try to say that three times fast under the influence).
