Happy weekend! Somewhat unseasonably cool today but I'm not complaining too much at all since I rather like it crisp. One of the Twitter City Pop accounts recommended this one and again, I'm not complaining at all.
Besides, it's appropriate for the month. I'm talking about "September Walkin'" which was the B-side to Anri's(杏里)12th single "Lady Sunshine" from June 1983. Despite the title, though, it's still quite summery-sounding and very much in the City Pop/J-AOR realm thanks to the singer, songwriter Toshiki Kadomatsu(角松敏生)and arranger Jun Sato(佐藤準), the same triumvirate behind "Lady Sunshine".
"September Walkin'" makes for a fine B-side opposite "Lady Sunshine" since it's a bit more laid-back and that genre intro sets a mighty appetizing song although Kadomatsu's lyrics fit the fall theme of getting beyond a romance that has sadly come to an end. It may not be quite as dynamic as the A-side but those lovely horns by Sato make it fairly clear that the lady will be able to move ahead with her life. Both songs are also included in Anri's "Bi-Ki-Ni" album which was released on the same day as the single.
