Well, I first discovered Masayo Kawaguchi's(川口雅代)song "Salmon Pink" (さあもん ぴんく) back in September 2016 and said that I would delve further into her career. Yep, I know...it's been more than four years since that initial article so feel free to Gibbs slap me.
To make amends, allow me to bring in the first track from her 1981 debut album "Salute - Go-Aisatsu"(SALUTE 〜ご・あ・い・さ・つ〜...Greetings) titled "Fall In Love". Whereas "Salmon Pink" from the same album was somewhat reminiscent of Taeko Ohnuki's(大貫妙子)New Music days in the latter half of the 1970s, there is something in Kawaguchi's melody and vocals which reminds me of Ami Ozaki(尾崎亜美)of that same time. It's quite bouncy and breezy as if to mark a whirlwind eye-opening tour of shiny Tokyo for a young lady fresh from her hometown in the countryside. Quite a subtle contrast, too, between the underlying disco beat and the nimble melody.
Along with Kawaguchi's vocals and music, there are also singer-songwriter Itsuro Shimoda's(下田逸郎)lyrics with everything put together by arranger Shigeru Suzuki(鈴木茂). Would like to get my own copy of "SALUTE" but alas, it's not there at CD Japan.
