Seiko Matsuda -- Hoho ni Shiokaze(頬に潮風)

Welcome to Hump Day and a Happy 59th Birthday to evergreen 80s aidoru Seiko Matsuda(松田聖子)! I had been thinking about putting up "Eighteen" in commemoration of her special day but as it turns out, I'd already written about it when I went into her 2nd album "North Wind" back in 2018.

But there's nothing to worry about since I was able to find "Hoho ni Shiokaze" (The Sea Breeze on my Cheek) which was the B-side to Seiko-chan's 5th single "Natsu no Tobira"(夏の扉)from April 1981. Now, that particular single serves as my introduction to Matsuda thanks to commercials and the very first Kohaku Utagassen that I ever saw where she appeared to perform the song (her second appearance on the NHK special).

"Hoho ni Shiokaze" isn't quite as bouncy as the A-side but it's still a fine representative of her early material as the quintessential early 80s aidoru. It's got all that sunny summer goodness with the strings, the flute and, of course, Matsuda's sweet and chipper vocals singing of love. There's that interesting inclusion of a light and mellow saxophone, too. All in all, it's a lovely nostalgia trip down through the hot seasons of yore. Sakiko Asakawa(浅川佐記子)was the lyricist and Jukichi Moriie(森家住吉)was the composer with Tadashige Matsui(松井忠重)arranging everything.
