Yutaka Kimura Speaks ~ Japanese City Pop Masterpieces 100: Kazuhito Murata -- So Long, Mrs.

Number: 047

Lyricist: Yoshihiko Ando

Composer: Kazuhito Murata

Arranger: Tatsuro Yamashita

From Murata's 1983 album: "Hitokakera no Natsu"

Even Kazuhito Murata(村田和人)has tooted his own horn about "So Long, Mrs." as a song deserving to be in the category of his greatest hits. Tatsuro Yamashita(山下達郎)deftly used his arranging skill to capture the texture of the demo tape, and as was the case with Murata's debut single "Denwa shite mo"(電話しても), I can imagine that Tats shaped the song to make best use of that demo's nuance. The lyrics which masterfully feature the heart of a man after suddenly running into an old flame are also splendid. The bittersweetness can't be beat.

The above comes from "Disc Collection Japanese City Pop Revised" (2020).
