Mother Goose -- Cool

Back in 2019, I posted up an article on music trio Mother Goose's(マザー・グース)2nd and final album "Panorama House" where I wrote up on a number of the tracks. My conclusion was that the band was able to come up with a lovely concoction of different genres including folk, City Pop and country.

One of the tracks that I didn't cover in the original article is now up here. "Cool" is indeed a tall cool drink of water (or whatever was in that glass on the front cover of the album). Created by two of the three members of Mother Goose, Mayumi Kaneda(金田真由美)and Yumiko Kyoda(京田由美子), the song is reflective of that myriad blend of genres involved in "Panorama House". There is that overall feeling of Margaritaville tropicality with that country music-necessary steel pedal guitar and some sprinkling of City Pop. It's another friendly "How do you do." by the ladies on the radio during a sunny Sunday.

  1. The uhuu at 42 seconds reminds me of an American song of the time so much, but I just can't place it. Similar to Maria Muldaur but I don't think it is her. Maybe I should scour Last.fm for related artist.

    1. Morning, Robert. Should be an interesting hunt for the reference, especially with the feeling of Muldaur.

    2. It will be a fun task.

The singer on this song is much better than the other and the one that was only on the first album. But I think that Japanese people have a different take on this. Sort of like the yaeba cuteness but for singing, imperfections can be endearing. Or am I off base?

Her voice is similar to Tazz in some of songs, but sweeter and less buzz.

    3. Well, as they say...it isn't so much about the destination but the journey. I don't think you're off base. When it comes to aidoru singing, I can imagine some folks running for the hills with their ears bleeding, but others enjoy the somewhat off-tune imperfect singing because it fulfills the aural cuteness.
