Looking rather dreary in my neck of the woods and of course with it being Hump Day today, I figure that it would be nice to have a bit of aural sunshine break through the cloud layer.
Takako Shirai's(白井貴子)9th single from June 1984, "Chance!", sounds like just the tonic. It is the quintessential song by her with that 80s pop/rock mix of upbeat feelings and sense of moving ahead proudly through life. Written and composed by the singer, the protagonist here is prodding her nervous beau-to-be to take that chance and make that plunge for romantic fulfillment. The song was also used for a Citizen watch commercial.
Seeing that lip-locking below in an 80s commercial, I was slightly surprised because public affection wasn't exactly encouraged back then in Japan. I remember seeing some footage there of a young couple kissing outside when a cranky elderly man whacked them with an umbrella and scolded them for such uncivilized behaviour. Perhaps things have mellowed out since then.
