A bit early in the week for City Pop but heck, I've exercised my Captain's Prerogative. Besides, this is a song that I've been meaning to get on board for a while now but it just wasn't getting written about for various reasons including forgetfulness.
Haven't done a Rajie(ラジー)song since last November, so it's good to have her atmospheric "Bara no Gurasu" (Rose Glass) up on the blog at last. A track from her November 1981 album "Acoustic Moon", this was written by Etsuko Kisugi(来生えつこ)and composed by Yoshitaka Minami(南佳孝), and it hits a lot of the different genre buttons. The bossa nova is there from Note One but a piano brings in some jazz as well. Also as we get a little deeper into "Bara no Gurasu", we also get some of that sophisti-pop and perhaps some of that Fashion Music, thanks to that relaxing languidness in the arrangement. Like a good sangria, they all blend into something very cool and urban as if the cocktail just has to be poured into that rose glass.
It's really not all that steamy out there tonight but it's always nice to have something as cooling as this one by Rajie.
