Minako Yoshida -- Black Moon

It's a much more pleasant Sunday than it was a Saturday. However, the rain and sleet mix didn't disrupt my lifestyle as it pertained to my blog entries, my Skype lesson and my chat with JTM last night, thankfully. Mind you, it's been very slippery to get around the neighbourhood today.

Just a few minutes ago, I finished listening to Rocket Brown's latest Come Along Radio podcast with the theme being City Pop tunes from 1980, one of the prime years for the genre. Among the songs in there was singer-songwriter Minako Yoshida's(吉田美奈子)"Black Moon", a cool but ominous number of bad weather and desperate love.

In addition to the piano and plucky guitar centering the arrangement to form a relentless rhythm, Yoshida's backing vocals and other vocal effects create the stormy weather as if there were something similar to the pounding that we all got here in Toronto yesterday. "Black Moon" is its own story, let alone a song that could make for a decent theme for a suspense drama. The song was a track on her 1980 "Monochrome" album which also includes "Midnight Driver".
