Aiko Obata -- Yokohama(横浜)

At this rate of Yokohama-based kayo that have been showing up on "Kayo Kyoku Plus" over the nearly 9 years that the blog has been in existence, I may have to very well set up the new category of "Yokohama" in Labels. Then, if that's indeed the case, Tokyo and Osaka will have to follow suit.

In early November, I put up a song by Aiko Obata(おばたあいこ), "Kisetsu Hazure no Watashi"(季節はずれの私)and got some appreciated information from the uploader 58RNA3QD. My impression of that song was that it was in the folk/New Music vein, and from listening to some of the source album "Good-bye Yesterday" which was her 2nd LP from 1977, she enjoyed trying out a small variety of genres.

"Kisetsu Hazure no Watashi" is the 2nd track but what starts "Good-bye Yesterday" is "Yokohama", a light and bouncy evening-friendly tune. It's got the bossa nova beat and along with that New Music tag, perhaps I can also place it into City Pop as well, considering the title and the overall arrangement. The Minato Mirai 21 development at one end of Yokohama Bay was obviously not there in 1977, but if I'd been old and worldly enough at the time, I probably would have enjoyed taking a nice walk through the major commercial centre of the city while listening to this one.

The music was provided by Shigeru Iwahisa(岩久茂)while the lyrics were by Yuko Tanaka(田中祐子)...not to be confused with the actress of the same name who is married to singer Kenji Sawada(沢田研二).
