Native Son -- Whispering Eyes

Happy to hear that there is yet another Japanese fusion band that I can add alongside to The Square and Casiopea among others. I only learned about Native Son(ネイティブ・サン)some months ago but this unit centering around the late keyboardist Takehiro Honda(本田竹広)and saxophonist Kousuke Mine(峰厚介)started up in early 1978 and lasted about a decade into the late 1980s. They first went on tour around Japan and that experience led to them naming themselves Native Son, according to the J-Wiki article about the guys.

Ten albums and three singles were output by the band, but their debut album was "Native Son" released in 1979 with one of the tracks being "Whispering Eyes". A sound of its times, the track conjures up images of beachside life, large cocktails with umbrellas and plenty of sun. Both Honda and Mine get their ample time in the spotlight as their supporting bandmates help out in the jam with bits of funk and Latin bouncing in. But then near the end, both core members start to really cook and play off of each other.
