I'll be honest here and say that when I first saw the title of this Bread & Butter(ブレッド&バター)song, my memories sped to Foghorn Leghorn and his way of singing "Camptown Races".
But this song has nothing to do with belligerent and blowhard roosters. In fact, the 35-second intro to "DO・DA・DAY" by Bread & Butter in City Pop mode reminds me more of the beginning of Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean", (one wonders whether Satsuya and Fuyumi Iwasawa moonwalked across the recording booth) and the rest of it still retains a lot of downtown rhythms. As well, the mysterious aural arrangement has me thinking of Matt Bianco.
It was Fuyumi behind the cool panther-like melody while Shun Taguchi(田口俊)wrote the lyrics. "DO・DA・DAY" is about as far away from their folk roots and even their hammock-friendly Resort AOR through songs like "Summer Blue" in the early 1980s as they could get. This is Bread & Butter's life in the big city. I enjoy the harmonies of the backing vocals, the whirlwind synth-strings and of course that underlying rhythm.
The song was the B-side for the duo's April 1986 23rd single "remember my love" which was written and composed by the great Stevie Wonder. It was also included on one of Bread & Butter's numerous BEST compilations "Miracle Touch" which was released later in the year in November.
