About a season ago, I introduced technopop trio Perfume's "Drive'n The Rain" from their July 2022 album "Plasma". For me, although I had been coming around to the opinion that things were getting a bit stale with the Perfume sound, I actually enjoyed "Drive'n The Rain", which was fellow KKP co-administrator Marcos V.'s recommendation, for its infusion of Steely Dan flavour and a disco flute. Basically, it was Perfume's take on Neo-City Pop.
Marcos also mentioned "Spinning World" that was also a track on "Plasma". No Steely Dan influences here but it does have some nice driving funky groove, once again thanks to Yasutaka Nakata(中田ヤスタカ), and yep, I can feel and hear some of the old 1980s there in the keyboards. Maybe there's even a bit of Especia in the proceedings. Of course, the music video has Nocchi, Kashiyuka and a-chan spinning about as red-garbed wind-up dolls.
