Yutaka Kimura Speaks ~ Japanese City Pop Masterpieces 100: Kingo Hamada -- Wasted Summer Love

Number: 013

Lyricist: Akira Ohtsu

Composer: Kingo Hamada

Arranger: Hiroshi Sato

From Hamada's 1983 album: "Mugshot"

Featuring a Chris Rea-esque slide guitar solo by Shigeru Suzuki(鈴木茂), "Wasted Summer Love" is a first-rate medium-tempo song that skillfully weaves via Hiroshi Sato's(佐藤博)arrangement an image of momentary silence while riding on the highway. While an exceptionally fine Hamada song with a specially urbanite sentimentalism permeating its mellowness, "Wasted Summer Love" can also be considered to be an absolute masterpiece which unreservedly displays that distinctive Hamada flavour.

The above comes from "Disc Collection Japanese City Pop Revised" (2020).
