Miyuki Kojima -- Kocchi wo Muite(こっちを向いて)

In that last article, I introduced "Animation The Best Ten 1980"('80アニメーション ザ・ベストテン), the brainchild short movie suggested by young Kaoru Sugita(杉田薫)on the Top 10 anime. One of the co-hosts was actress/singer Miyuki Kojima(児島美ゆき)and I was interested in what her story was all about since it was the first time for me to hear about her.

Well, Kojima was born and raised a Tokyoite and when she was thirteen in the 1960s, she began to attend what is now the Toei Academy, an entertainment company and training institution for thespians and seiyuu. A year later, she joined a chorus group called Young Fresh(ヤング・フレッシュ); even in recent times, this group has provided background chorus for several TV shows and movies in the "PreCure" anime franchise.

Her solo career though started in 1967 and since then, Kojima has amassed a lot of credits in movies, television programs and variety shows. As well, she was able to release seven singles between 1969 and 1974. One song within her brief discography is "Kocchi wo Muite" (Look Over Here) which was the B-side to her 2nd single "Do Iu Wake ka"(どういうわけか...Somehow) from Xmas Day 1970. Written by Hiroko Ohya(大矢弘子)and composed by Hiroyuki Nakagawa(中川博之), Kojima sounds like a combination of a sulky teenager and Mary Martin from "Annie Get Your Gun".
