I've been a fan of Japanese popular music for 40 years, and have managed to collect a lot of material during that time. So I decided I wanted to talk about Showa Era music with like-minded fans. My particular era is the 70s and 80s (thus the "kayo kyoku"). The plus part includes a number of songs and artists from the last 30 years and also the early kayo. So, let's talk about New Music, aidoru, City Pop and enka.

Makoto Saito -- Mrs. MAGIC (She is a Cinderella)
Getting fully into music in the 1980s, one of the big pop bands for me and my friends was WHAM! with George Michael and Andrew Ridgely. I liked a whole lot of their songs but one of the big ones by them was "Everything She Wants" from 1984. Liked the original and then the extended remix with the music video.
There's something about the rhythm or the overall melody in singer-songwriter Makoto Saito's(斎藤誠)"Mrs. MAGIC (She is a Cinderella)" that reminds me of "Everything She Wants" for some reason. In any case, this was his March 1985 4th single following the far mellower and AOR"Aru Gray na Koi no Baai"(或るグレイな恋の場合)from the previous year, and this one has a few more aural bells and whistles going for it. To bring in another singer for analogous purposes, the jump from "Aru Gray" to "Mrs. MAGIC" reminds me of the comparison between Gino Vannelli's"I Just Wanna Stop" and "Black Cars".
(Sorry but the video has been taken down.)
I guess that Saito also got into the remix craze as did a whole lot of other singers back in that decade, since his 5th single for July of that same year turned out to be a remix version of "Mrs. MAGIC". The original version was included in his 3rd album"Paradise A Go! Go!" released in April.
